Trace Generation

TraceCloner.com Trace Generation

This application has an algorithm to detect and automatically generate polyline traces. It is based on the color that identifies the item of interest.

The process is as follows:

  1. Identify the item of interest. In the image above, let's assume it is the green zone with the number '80'.

  2. Create an enclosing shape such as a rectangle, polygon or ellipse, that contains the item of interest. This will act as a filter, to use the selected color only in the zone to be detected. It can later be removed or be deactivated using the traces list.

  3. Zoom in the background image using the mouse wheel or the Tools Panel Display buttons, to make the item of interest color (green in this example) span a larger zone.

  4. Right click at the center of the color of the item of interest (green in this example). In some images, there may be a range of similar colors: just select the most representative.

  5. From the Context Menu, select Generate Polyline.

The detected trace will generate a polyline that will be displayed as selected using the default color.

The points can be manually adjusted or deleted, and new points can be added using the graphics editor.

If the detected shape is some kind of random polyline, delete it, and check the selected color and/or the enclosing shape. Also, adjusting (lowering) the configuration values could help.

The automatic trace detection only works for items of interest that have, for any horizontal point, only one vertical zone with the selected color.

Frequently, better results are obtained manually inserting a Bezier Line, and adjusting it with zoom.
